Te Taiao - Environment

Ngāti Tamaoho Trust's Te Taiao Rōpū deals with environment issues within Ngāti Tamaoho tribal rohe which encompasses the greater Tāmaki Makaurau and Northern Waikato.

Our kaitiakitanga/guardianship role is protection of our taonga, wāhi tapu, awa, moana, ngāhere, maunga and whenua.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its intended partnership and principles and the Resource Management Consent are processes that Ngāti Tamaoho use to challenge, educate (traditional expertise, māori world view) and mahi tahi/work together with councils, developers and the general public to help achieve our moemoea/dreams and aspirations of kaitiakitanga of Papatuanuku and Ranginui.

The six major issues that Te Taiao focus on are:
  • better sedimentation control
  • quality stormwater control systems
  • innovative wastewater systems that don't impact on our harbours, awa and waterways
  • riparian planting
  • fencing of waterways
  • not supporting development of green fields (rural areas).

This is an overview of the daily operations of Ngāti Tamaoho Trusts Te Taiao Rōpū engagements with new and historical entities wanting to deliver their kaupapa within Ngāti Tamaoho rohe/area.
